MINERAL EXHIBITS FOR THE MELBOURNE EXHIBITION.

The s.s. Kotuku, which arrived from the Thames on Friday evening, brought up a quantity of quartz and minerals from the principal mines in the Tui, Te Aroha, Karangahake, and Marototo districts, and ihese have been received by a committee, who will see that they are duly forwarded to Melbourne. The greater portion of the shipment is at Messrs. Craig's yards, near the railway shed, but some splendid samples of quartz and lead mineral from the Champion lode, Tui district, were on view during the afternoon at the Chamber of Commerce, and attracted a great deal of attention. They are all packed in rough cases ready for shipment by the Manapouri, which leaves for Melbourne on Thursday at noon. The present shipment comprises 42 boxes of quartz and one specimen from the Thames, 5 boxes from Marototo, 1 from Waitekauri, 14 from Karangahake, 1 from U'hangamata, S from Waihi, 41 from Te Aroha including lead and other minerals from the Champion and Ruakaka mines. The exhibits are worthy ones, and will in some measure help to wipe out the disgrace which New Zealand has suffered at the hands of her commissioners at the Melbourne Exhibition. The exhibits will be on view to-day at the Chamber of Commerce and at Mr. Craig's yard. Mr. G. Wilson, Mining Inspector, from the Thames, has arrived in Auckland for the purpose of assisting in packing and arranging the exhibits. Mr. Adam Porter will arrive in Auckland to-day with further consignments of quartz.
