ELECTRIC LIGHT AT THE THAMES.
[BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] Thames, Thursday. A proposal was made to the Borough Council to-day by Mr. Walter Prince to light the streets by electricity. He estimates that the cost of a plant sufficient to supply nine arc lamps would be about £560, and the cost of running the plant £50 per annum. The present cost of gas for the street lamps, and Borough Council and Harbour Board, is £210, so that, according to Mr. Prince's estimate, a saving of £16() per annum would be effected. Mr. Prince waited upon the Borough Council at a meeting to-night, and detailed his proposals at some length. It was resolved to refer the matter to the Lighting Committee to report upon. Mr. Prince returned to Auck-
land to-night.
