BREACH OF PROMISE CASE.
[by telegraph.—press association.] In vercahgill, Tuesday. A cask of breach of promise of marriage, Evans v. Jackson, damages £200, was heard this afternoon. Defendant, a hotelkeeper, was a widower, and made a very prosaic engagement with the plaintiff', a widow, but drew out of it 011 the allegation that she had concealed the fact that she had six children. A ring had been bought, the licence procured, and. the parson engaged for the marriage, but defendant threw up the whole affair and married another woman a week later. The jury awarded 20s damages, and costs on. the lowest scale. As a matter of fact, four of the plaintiffs daughters are earning their own living in another colony, and the defendant said that was the reason these were concealed from him.
