THE POWERS OF RACING CLUBS.
[PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] Melbourne, April 19. Volger, a bookmaker, who was forcibly ejected from the course at the last meeting, has recovered £25 damages and costs, against the Victorian Amateur Turf Club. He claimed £500 damages. The judge in awarding damages said that the club had no power to eject the plaintiff, who refused to abstain from betting and was therefore ejected by force. TAKAPUNA AUTUMN MEETING. The following are the winning payments made over the above meeting : —Mr. R. Thorpe (Ist Autumn Handicap), £61 15s ; Mr. J. Rao (Ist Handicap Steeplechase), £61 Ms; Mr. J. B. Williamson (Ist Maiden Hurdles and 2nd Autumn Handicap), £33 15s; Mr. H. H. Hayr (Ist Handicap Hurdles), £38; Mr. C. Beresford (Ist Devonport Handicap), £33 5; Mr. H. Simson (Ist Selling Raco), £28 10s; Mr. M. Gallagher (2nd Handicap Hurdles), £5; Mr. W. Bond (Ist Novel Race), £23 15s; Mr. J. Marshall (2nd Handicap Steeplechase), £10; Mr. Geo. Wright (2nd Devonport Handicap), £5 : total, £300 15s. Acceptances and nominations for the Srincipal events of the South Auckland ,acing Club's meeting arc due to-night. The hurdle-racer, Peter Osbeck, is to be offered at the sale of thoroughbreds to take glace to-morrow at the stables of Mr. J. haafe, Ellerslie. The annual general meeting of the Plumpton Coursing Company will be held this evening at the Commercial Hotel, to receive the directors' report, elect directors, and transact such other business as may arise.
