[own correspondent.] Thames, Thursday. Considerable interest was evinced in the result of the Hastings local option poll yesterday. The official return was : —For increase of publicans' licenses, 76 ; against, 68; majority for, 8. Accommodation licenses : For, 81; against, 50 : majority for, 31. The poll for Kauaeranga district today resulted :—For increase of publicans' licenses, 14 ; against, 37. Accommodation : For, 17 ; against, 34 ; informal, 4. . A deputation of the managing directors of the Askham-Molloy Company waited on Mr. Brodie, County Chairman, to-day, to ascertain what concessions the county were willing to make them in regard to supplying water free for motive power for a certain period, in accordance with a resolution passed some months ago by the county, offering free water for three months to anyone introducing an improved systom of treatment of refractory ores. , Mr. Brodie replied that if they would put their request in writing, he would do w.iat he could for them at the next ordinary meeting of the Council.
