Medium scoured and greasy were a halfpenny and inferior and faulty sorts a penny below the closing rates in July. The strongest demand was for the home trade. German buyers were reserved, while those from France bought freely in grades that suited their requirements. There was an absence of support from America. One hundred and twehty-eignt thousand bales were catalogued, of which number 14,000 were withdrawn. The hop harvest is approaching completion, and reports as to the yield have improved. The best of the crops average from £6 to £7 per cwt, but for inferior and damaged sorts prices are unchanged. The wheat market is inactive, and prices have not improved. A cargo by the ship Pengweirn has been sold at 30s 4£d. Ireoter's telegram.j London, September 17. At the wool auctions yesterday 11,400 bales were offered, and the demand was better.
