A RAILWAY COLLISION AVERTED.
[By TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Thursday. There was a narrow escape from collision outside Palmerston yesterday. Just as the morning train from Wanganui neared the town it was met by th« outward bound train. Luckily neither was going at full speed, and the timely application of the brakes brought them to a standstill within a chain or two of one another. The passengers had a great fright. There is an incline and curve at the place, and the Palmerßton train was going up the former, which helped to lessen its speed.
