RE SOUTH BRITISH INSURANCE COMPANY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sibl notice, in your issue of this morns ing, an effusion over the signature of T. Leigh White," wherein that gentleman, having a bad case to defend, adopts the tactics sometimes practised amongst lawyers —viz., "abusing the other side.". If MrWhite thinks for one moment he has improved his case by the scurrilous abuse he so lavishly showers on Mr. Chamberlin, let me disabuse his mind of the idea. To say the least of it, several of Mr. White's statements are at variance with the trnth. For instance, he says Mr. Chamberlin offered 6s per share for a parcel of the company's stock, with the remark "that they were not worth more." I am not aware if Mr. T. Leigh White attended the sale referred to, but I am informed, for a positive fact, the gentleman in question never made use of such words, nor any which would bear the construction he (Mr. White) puts upon them. With regard to Mr. White's remarks about the patriarch of old and the mess of pottage, I think yon will Agree with me they are bo;
neath and I am only surprise! that Mr. White should endeavour to bolster up his case with Buoh vulgar personalities, which he and all old settlers in this town must know are not correct. However the shareholders at the meeting in question did not re-elect Mr. White for another term of offioe at auditor, clearly proving that they as well as the gentleman under notice, did not altogether acquit him of blame, for passing the balance-sheet, knowing the oompany had no tangible security for moneys ad« vanced. "Let the galled jade wince," &c.— I am, &0., A Shareholder,
