THE WIMBLEDON MEETING.
[redter's telegram.] London, July 16. At Wimbledon to day in the firing for St. George's Challenge Vase and Dragon Cup (seven shots at 500 yards), the highest English score reached the maximum 35. The Australians scored as follows:—Fenn, 31 ; Private Allen, 30; Lieutenant Keating, 30 ColourSergeant Barrow, 30; Lieutenant Room, Captain Powell, Sergeant Saker, Captain Blackshaw, Lieutenant Golding, each 28. The statement previously telegraphed that Sergeant Grimes, of Queensland, was eligible to compete in the second stage for the Queen's Prize, is incorrect. A later telegram says :—Lieutenant Golding,of Tasmania, and.Sergt. Grimes, of Queensland, have both won small prizes at the Wimbledon meeting. London, July 17. In the firing in the second stage for the Queen's prize to-day the highest English score was 194. Lieutenant Golding, of Tasmania, was the only Australian competitor he scored 164, but is ineligible to compete in the final stage. The following prizes have been won by Australians Sergt. Grimes, £2, first stage Queen's prize ; Fenn, A. 8., £2, St. George's Vase match ; Col.-sergt. Barrow, third prize, Prince of Wales' match ; Col.-sergt. Gee, £3, same match.
