THE GOLDFIELDS.

♦ 1 New Prince Imperial.—The manager reports on May 22 : There are atill six men employed in the stopes on the hanqingwall etnnger above No. 5 level, and good payable crushing dirt continues to be broken out. Twenty-six loads were passed through the battery this week for the good yield of 191oz of amalgam. ~ We will only have next week's work here, as the water is now within 18 feet of JSo. 5 flat sheet; but, as I mentioned before, should the lead prove to continue on up in solid ground, we can easily open out from one of the old passes on the No. 2 lead, and work the remainder ot it out below No. 4 level. At No. 3 level the drive on the western side of the break on No. 1 reef is getting into much better country, and there is now a well-defined body of stone, about 15 inches thick in the face, which looks very promising, but no gold has been seen yet. There will be about 12 loads more of quartz to crush yet, which will be put through the stampers next week. Saxon. — The following * telegram was received yesterday 'from the manager:— "Crushed 30 more loads, Banked 66020f retorted gold."
