[press association.] WELLINGTON, Saturday. Mr. J. R. Browns, surveyor, was taken in charge for threatening to take "Rough on Kate," which he had mixed up In his glass, and threatening to murder his wife and children. The unfortunate man is now in the Hospital, suffering from the effects of • drinking debauch. A six teen-roomed house, situated on the Karori Road, and commonly known as the Surprise Hotel, was burned down last night. It was the property of Mr. Lewer, and was lately occupied by Mr. Spiers, who gave up possession at two o'clock yesterday after* noon. The origin of the are is unknown. It is believed the place is heavily insured. TIMARU, Sunday. A servant girl named O'Connor has been missing from the house of a farmer at Parcora since ten o'clock on Friday night. She had shown signs of insanity. The police and others have been searching the country since, but without result. It is feared she has perished in some way or other. DUNEDIN, Sunday, The glove fight between Raymond (Petten* gell's trainer) and Davis, a local man, turned out a fiasco. Raymond would not turn cut at first, and claimed to be sick. When he did it was seen he knew little of boxing, but as he was bigger than Davis, he stood five rounds. No judges were present. Each claimed to have won. There was an extremely small attendance. The twelve hours' walking match between Hancock and Scott takes place to-morrow. Hancock is the favourite.
