THE HON. P. A. BUCKLEY.

The Hon. P. A. Buckley, Colonial Secretary, visited the Lunatic Asylum, the Old People'* Refuge, the Hospital, and the,Kohimarama Training School, yesterday. Mr. Buckley has, during the past few weeks, vi*ited the charitable institutions in the South. It is his intention to make a very exhaustive report dealing with the whole question of charitable aid. It may be neces»ary for him to revisit Auckland in a short time, in which case he will probably remain here for several weeks. One of the main objects of Mr. Buckley's tour of the colony is to look into the working of the Sheep and Rabbit Acts. This inquiry is, no doubt, the outcome of the report made to Parliament last sestion by the Joint Sheep and Rabbit Acts Committee. The committee showed that the administration of the law was lax in some parts of the colony, and in consequence great injustice was done. Mr. Buckley's personal enquiries will enable him to effect whatever changes may be necessary for the better working of these departments. Owing to an unavoidable delay in returning from Kohimarama yesterday afternoon, the Colonial Secretary was unable to be at the Mayor's office at the hour he had appointed to meet a deputation from the Hospital Committee. The committee are requested to meet at the Mayor's office at ten o'clock this morning, in order to wait on the Minister, who has arranged to be at tho office at that hour.
