AUCKLAND LICENSED VICTUALLERS' ASSOCIATION.

The quarterly meeting of this bo3y took place yesterday afternoon in the large room of the New Zealand Insurance Company's Buildings, Mr. Hugh. Mcllhone, the President, being in the chair. The last minutes were read and adopted. Various matters relating to the welfare of the association were dealt with. Reduction of Rents.—lt was resolved to endeavour to get tho owners of hotels to reduce their rents, consequent upon the change of closing hours since the beginning of last July. Special Meeting.—The meeting resolved that a special meeting of those interested in the trade should be convened at an early date to discuss matters relating to the forthcoming elections for Licensed Commissioners. Mr. Jasgrr's Visit to Wellington.— The report of Mr. Samuel Jaeger, the representative of the trade who proceeded to Wellington during the last meeting of the Assembly, was next considered. Tne Secretary read the report, after which a complimentary discussion followed, when it was unanimously resolved "That a special vote of thanks be accorded to that gentleman for his able and interesting report just read; that he be requested, in terms of paragraph No. 25 in his communication, to transmit his suggestions and recommendations for the future working and continued success of the association ; and further, that a present of 40 guineas be voted to Mr. Jagger towards hia expenses during his recent visit to Wellington. Appointment of Auditors. — Messrs. Kldd (Commercial), and Browning (Pier), were appointed Auditors for the year just ended. Nomination of Officers.The nominations for Pre«ident, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary, were handed in, whilst the election of five members of committee was postponed until the next quarterly meeting in April. Notice of Motion. — Mr. Luks gave notice that at the next quarterly meeting he would move in the direction of the Borough Council being moved to increase the number of gas lamps. After other business of a routine character was dealt with, the meeting adjourned.
