London, January 8, The Oriental Bank have purchased the assets of the old company, comprising a million and a-half pounds worth of shares, and three-quarters of a million debentures, which were acquired altogether for one million nine hundred thousand pounds. The assets are valued at two millions and a-half, with the benefit of a full call being made on the shares. THE ADELAIDE PROFESSOR OP MUSIC. London, January 8. Mr. Joshua Ives, who was recently appointed Professor of Music to the Adelaide University, was presented with an address, accompanied by a purse of sovereigns, at Glasgow. THE AGENTS-GENE AND PRINCE ALBERT VICTOR. London, January 8. The Agents-General of the various colonies decided not to congratulate Prince Albert Victor on the attainment of his majority. CORN DUTIES IN GERMANY. London, January 9. Prince Bismarck will increase the corn duties. THE MIGNONETTE CASE. London, January 9. An application has been made to the Home Secretary praying for the release of Captain Dudley, and Stephens, the the mate of the Mignonette, who were recently sentenced to six months for the murder of Parker. After due consideration, it was decided not to interfere with the sentence. FEDERATION AND EMIGRATION. London, January 9. The London Chamber of Commerce are drafting a petition for presentation to the Government, urging upon them the necessity for Imperial federation, and the desirability of increased emigration to the colonies. PROPOSED MEETING OF COLONIAL PREMIERS. Melbourne, January 9. Mr. Service, the Premier, proposes that a conference of tho Premiers of the various Australasian colonies bo held here in a fortnight's time, to consider the present aspect of the annexation question.
