THE GOLDFIELDS.

Queen'or Beauty. — The following mine manager's report was received yesterday :— No. 8 Vanguard crosscut: The orosaoat has been extended for the fortnight 34 feet, making a total distance from the shaft 697 feet. The cross-reef running too much east, we have turned the crosscut south-east, through the blaok rook:, but a portion of the orosß-reeE has split off, and is still going with us. The contractors having finished their contraot, I have re-let them 30 feet at 30s per foot, and thiß distance should see_ us through the belt end in the sandstone. Since Monday, I have had two men employed timbering in the crosscut where the ground is heavy, and in the vicinity of where the Bird-in-Hand reef ought to be. In stripping the ground, we got six inohes of nice looking quartz. After the ground is seoured, I intend driving a few feet on this seaward, fori am of opinion it leads to the Bird-in-Hand reef. ; No. 10 Level, No. 1 reef: The drive on this reef during the week was advanced 15 feet. The reef is about-two feet in thickness, . and contains excellent minerals. There is a break seaward of the shaft about 50 feet on No. 2 reef, where the late manager got a few blotches of gold. This break crosses the country ahead of our drive on No. 1 reef, and it should make a change in the character of the reef. I have let a contract to Hill* and party at 20s per foot. Stopes No. 10: We have five men employed stoping a blook out about 60 feet long, and each side of the break. The reef looks excellent for minerals, and we should take this block out through to No. 9, and this will give us every faoility for finding' the continuation of the run of gold at No. .9. We have obtained five head for crushing the quartz we have on hand from No. 10 level.

[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Thames, .Friday evening. Shareuarket.—Cambria, sellers Is 6d; Low Level, buyers 6d, sellers 7dj Dart, sellers 2s ; Cross, sellere 2s ; Imperial, sellers 15a 6d, buyers 14s 6d; Caledonian, sellers 10s ; Queen of Beauty, sellers 2s 3d ; May Queen, Te Aroha, 6d. Caledonian.;— The winze is down 17 feet. The leader is about a foot, and shows oolours of gold in the drive. The leader' has recovered from the effects of contact with the cross lode, and shows cold in breaking. The crushing is shaping better,- its recent comparative poorness being due to a blank for some distance in the stopes. Qoeen of Beauty.—A trial crushing from No. 10 level is proceeding, and although it may not be quite payable the show is encouraging. The reef is not looking so well as driven on, the mineral being darker, but the 'manager has reason to believe that it will soon change for the better, and he estimates that the cross-cut towards the Vanguard reef should be clear of the hard rock in about 30 feet, and that 30 feet further will see the lode to hand. , Moanataiarx Extended.—The contractors are proceeding vigorously with the erection of the machinery, and the bed logs are in position. They were delayed some time through want of timber for these. Kuranoi Hill.—The contract for driving on No. 6 lode from the Albion shaft at the 80-feet level is finished, but th* Herald shaft has not yet been reached. The lode is strong, and another, leader is coming in at the face. -Both the leaders and country look better than they have yet done in ordinary in Kelly's section, rising at the Junction of No. 9, and the flat lodes continue. The latter are, however, now mors upright. A little gold has been seen and the country is favourable. Manokatj.—The battery level is being cleared and repaired, and the manager expeots to begin the winze to effect ventilation. Moanataiari.—Nothing freßh to report. The Bame works are on hand—viz., stoping and opening up No. 9 at the 132 feet level underneath Guthrie's rich tribute; also working little leaders in the Morning Star section, doing a little prospecting on No. 1 reef, and driving a cross-cut in the Waitemata seetion. Matters are shaping as usuai. Belcher.—(Mr. Workman's claim, Collarbone) : The shaft is down 50 feet in excellent country, and the lode should soon be at hand. A little leader passed through recently showing colours of gold.
