W. displacement to - N., j followed by a moderate E. and W. undulation. . The appointments of Trustees under the Maori Heal Estate-Management Act, 1867 and 1877, are gazetted. ; BLENHEIM, Friday. A slight bnt distinct shock of earthquake was felt at seven minutes to twelve this morning. No damage resulted. CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. Fears are entertained as to the life of Mr. H. J. Tanored Chancellor of the University, who is seriously ill. 'At a meeting of the Industrial Association the President's suggestion, that a deputation should wait on the Premier on Saturday, was rejected, and the President resigned; but upon being assured that the members had the fullest confidence in him he withdrew, his resignation. His Excellency the Governor has accepted the services of the Christchnrch Boys' High School Cadets Corps, and a company will be organised immediately. Forty of the boys have signed a proffer of services. A litigant who appeared in the E.M. Court had evidently a satisfactory way of dealing with the rabbit nuisance'as far as his lands at Templars' Island were concerned. He let a right of shooting rabbits to a olub of gentlemen, who, for five years, have paid him £63 annually for the privilege. This year they did not care to continue for various reasons, and an action was brought by the owner to recover the subscriptions he considered due. The defendants gained the verdict. Forty-two bankrupts under the new Aot are awaiting the Judge's appointment of a day to apply for their discharge. His Honor is so engaged with the sittings of the Supreme Court that he does not see his way clear till at least the beginning of May. Mr. T. S. Weston and Mr. T. Guinness are spoken of as candidates for Christohurch North, and Mr. Weston and Mr. Dtmlop for Avon. DUNEDIN, Friday. At a public meeting to-night it was arranged to start a co-operative store, and a committee was appointed. At a meeting of the committee of the recently appointed Constitutional Reform Association Captain Baldivan was elected chairman. It was resolved to hold public meetings shortly. ■ ■
