RIFLE MATCH,

. CITY GUARDS V. ARTILLERY. The shooting contest between thß Artillery Company and the City Guards came off on Saturday afternoon at the rifle range, Mount Eden, and proved to be one of the beßt contested matches of the season. The challenge was thrown out by Captain Payne, and promptly taken up by Captain Isaacs. Lieutenant Norrie was in command of the range, assisted by Lieutenant Osborne. The shooting commenced at two o'clock, the City Guards drawing slightly ahead on the left target. Towards the finish both teams beoame quite level, bat in the last two rounds the City Guards drew ahead, leaving them the viators by 17 points. Lieutenant Norriei then called on the Artillery for three cheers for the victors, which were lustily given ; the compliment being heartily returned by the City Guards.
