NATIVES OBSTRUCTING SURVEYORS.
[by telegraph.—press association. 1 Wanganui, Monday. FEWshas arrived in town this morning that the survey party under Mr. J. A. Thorpe, engaged on a survey of a sub-division of the Murimotu block, were stopped by natives under a chief named Aropeta Haeretuterangi. When they came back to where their tent was left on Friday morniDgthoy found everything gone, tent and all, and, on search being made, it was found that they had been taken by the abovenamed chief, who refused to give up possession unless the survey is abandoned. Mr. Thorpe has sent a messenger down to apply to Government for assistI ance, and application will also be made to the police. Wo violence is reported.
