IMPORTANT TO OWNERS OF MACHINERY.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Saturday. I have obtained an early copy of the Inspection of Machinery Extension Act, which contains one or two important new provisions. The principal operative clause provides that when any machinery or any appliance or contrivance used with machinery, appears to the Inspector to be faulty or defeotive, or so dangerous as to be likely to cause loss of life or bodily injury, he may give notice to the owuer either to desist wholly srom working it until it shall have been rendered eafc, or to have the needful alterations or repairs effected within a stateS time. Failure to comply with such notice renders offenders liable to a penalty of £100, the smallest fine recoverable being £20. It is further provided that the infliction' of ouch penalty is to be no b;»r to other civil or criminal proceedings against the offender, who may be either prosecuted criminally for his default or sued ior damI ages or both.
