DEPARTURE OF THE DORIC.

» , The: steamship Doric resumed her trip to Wellington and Lyttelton at half-past twelve p.m. yesterday. Owing to the fact of her hour of sailing being so uncertain her departure was not witnessed by so large a ' crowd as would otherwise have been present, j The tide was nearly full, but had begun to . run out, so that when the warps were cast ' off, the Doric began to set out from the : wharf. The huge vessel went away with 1 less bawling and fuss than many small • steamers. Captain Burgess was in charge 1 till she was clear of the wharf, and then . under the charge of Pilot Saiuty, she went : swiftly down the harbour, and out round the North 3ead. As she steamed down the : harbour the "monster" presented a noble appearance, towering high out of the water, : owiug to her light condition. The steam- ' ship takes but few passengers and a small 1 cargo from this port, but she is to receive i her home freight from Wellington and Lyttelton, and at both places the larger ' portion of her cargo of frozen meat is already awaiting her. She ia expected to sail for 1 London during the first week in October. 1 Both the New Zealand Shipping Company and Captain Nearing (the atevedore) deserve , every praise for the prompt despatch given ! to the vessel, and it is pleasing to find that ; when the need arises we have those who are able to grapple with the difficulties of unloading so large a vessel in a short time. The agents and stevedore of the JUoiic were altogether left to their own resources in all 1 matters on the wharf referring to this vessel; . therefore the prompt despatch obtained for her is oil the more creditable to those named. ; The officers of the steamship during their : short stay amongst us made many friends andit is to be hoped that at no distant d*te we may bave the pleasure of again welcoming the Doric and her officers to this port.
