THE MATAURA'S CARGO OF FROZEN MEAT.
It is pleasing to learn that the barque Ma- 1 taura (the arrival of which wo announced in our yesterday's issue) has carried her cargo , of frozen meat to London ia " splendid condition." Aβ considerable interest has been at- , tached to this, the first yenture in shipping frozen meat from the port of Auckland, the good news conveyed to us of the condition of the cargo on board the Mataura is all the more encouraging. In addition to her cargo of mutton, it will be remembered that the Mataura took a quantity of fish (assorted) for the homi market, and the result of this ! portion of her carco will also be looked for , anxiously On March 20th la<t the Mataura ' took on board the first 250 carcases of mut- ' ton, they being sent in from Mesers. Fisher 1 j and Co.'s slaughter-house at Otahuhu, and t from that time the supply was regularly f kept up until the vessel completed her load- ( ing on , May 23rd. By the tim'-- it ia put on \ the market some of the meat will have been frozen about six months. The following is a 5 complete list of the cargo of meat, &c, | taken on board :—7333i carcases mutton, 4-i c part carcases veal (451,5131b5.), £12,015; t 591 backs mutton (20,2021b3.), £505; 51 t brace pheasants, 0 quarters beef, 2 packages t assorted meats (lllOlbs.), £27 ; 21 packages ] fish (19361bi ), £40. The ' result of the sale t of this shipment will now be eagerly looked for. It is however pleasing to know ihat Mr. J, Banks, who went home for the pur- j pose, will look after the shipment, and it r may safely be said that the carco could not £ have been entrusted into better hands. Being \ a large shipp'-r himself (for Fislier and Co.) t it may be confidently expected that he will do his utmost for all concerned.
