AUCKLAND ART GALLERY.

5Vi. THE EDITOR. Sir, —I hope that His Worship the Mayor will see his way to call a public meeting to discuss the question of providing an Art Gallery before the subject has lost the charm of novelty. A considerable number of ladies and gentlemen are apparently convinced that the community will be very serious losers if no such building is provided, and surely we may reckon on these coming to the front with suggestions and mean 3. Such a meeting will enable us to value at its true worth the interest that Mr. Mackelvie'3 donations have awakened, and prove the wisdom or otherwise of taking steps to provide a permanent home for those works of art we have, and also for those which are sure to follow. —I am, &c., R. Auckland December 4, 18S2.
