EPISCOPAL COURTESIES.

TO TUB EDITOR. Sin, —That Mr. Spurgeon's designation of Bishop Cowie's Jate effusive demonstration in the presentation of the floral cross, as "an unholy alliance," should have been allowed to remain unnoticed by the Bishop is not surprising. There is, however, another section of the community, embracing those members of his own Church, whose t feelings have been greatly shocked by the action imputed to him as well as the publicity given thereto, and they may well exclaim, " Why is his chariot so long in coming ? Why'tarry tlie wheels of his chariots?" Surely, it would only be right were Bishop Cowie to come forward openly, and either put an end to the scandal by confirming the explanation advanced by one of yourcorrespondeDts, without however, any apparent authority to do so or boldly endorse the action, and defend it as he best may. By so doing he will at least al'.ay all uncertainty, and let us know how wc stand. And now, one word to "Anglican "on his second letter. Notwithstanding his fear to the contrary, I perfectly understood and appreciated at its full value the distinction he was so good as to attempt to draw. But a distinction without a difference is merely scholastic hair-splitting. It is quite impossible that darkness can be darkness in one quarter, and the same darkness be light in another ; error is error wherever it exists, and neither locality, nor age, nor name can change its substance from what it is.—l am, &c.. Protester. 4th December, 1882.
