This two-day match was commenced on Saturday afternoon in very unfavourable weather, and will be continued on the 2Sth instant. Robinion won the toss for Auckland, and decided to take the wicketi, Cox and O'Brien commencing the batting against th« bowling of Arneil and Lynch. Tho former comttibuted 15 by steady play, amongst which were two pretty cuts, while -he latter was badly run nut for 1. Roach and Dewes added 1G each, and at call of time Robinson and Yates were both Htt out for 5S and SS respectively, compiled by very steady play. Tie sloppiness of the wicket and ball rendered brilliant batting impossible, and some easy chances in the field were declined. The West End were obliged to was Donovan, of Oneh'unga, who is a really fine field, being very sure, and covering a quantity of gronnd. We would bo more pleased with him if he would always return by shy. King was very good at taking the bill from the field and putting down the wicketi. but slow at stumping, Robinson giving an easy chance, both men looking at each other in a kindly manner. Whiteside, us usual, was good in the outfield, tad Walker, at longstop, deserves praise. Isaac was the most successful of the bowlers, his pitch being very deceptive. He made a mistake when he changed ends, as he was materially assisted by the trees behind his arm. The West End deserves great credit for the plucky manner in which they played during the rain. Tho following are the icorei: — Auckland.— Cox. b Arneil. 15; O'Brien, run out, 1; Roach, b Arneil, 16; Robinson, not out, 53; Dewes, b Isaac, 16 ; Cameron, b Isaac, 2 ; Bindon, b Isaac, 1; Yates. not out, 3S ; extras, 3 : total for six wickets, 145. E. Bealu, A. Beale and Adams to bat. UNITED C.C. FIRST ELEVEN V. A.C.C. SECOND FIFTEEN. This match, like the others arranged for Saturday last, was sadly interrupted by the frequent showers, which prevented its completion. Ripley and Osmond made a good stand for the Fifteen, the partnership being dissolved only by the slowness of the latter between the wickets. Percy Dufaur, for the latter, started well, getting a very nicely played 12 before time was called. The following aro the scores :— A.C.C. Secoxd Fifteen.—Ripley, c Testro, b Lankham, jun., 24 ; Cheesema , b Lankham, jun., 9 ; Osmond, run out, Iβ ; R.
