FIJI NEWS.

«- By the e.s. Taiaroa, which arrived at a late hour last night, we have Fiji news to December 2. We extract the following items :— His Excellency the Governor left for Ba in the b.s. Taiaroa at 7.30 yesterday morning, for the purpose of closing the Bose Vaka Turaga, which has now for some time been in session in that district. By a Hoyal Gazette published under date of 26th ult., it is notified for public information that the Governor has been instructed by the Secretary of State for the Colonies to recognize provisionally Dr. Krauel, German Consul-Gencral, in Sydney, as including within his jurisdiction th« colony of Fiji. The sale of Crown lands at Suva on the 21st instant was the reverse of successful. A large concourse of people were in attendance, but the would-be sellers were considerably in excess of the buyers. The chief objection appeared to be to the improvement clauses as imposed by the contract of sale with the Government, and whatever disposition may have existed to make speculative purchases was kept in perfect subjection by the condition that all lands bought must be improved to not less than twice the value represented by the purchase money within the periods of two or three y ears, ____^_^^_____

I Mr. J. Gilmour returns his thanks through our advertisement columns for tho assistance so kindly extended to him on tlio occasion of tho lnte flre in Symonds-street.
