ENTERTAINMENT AT LORNE-STREET-HALL.
The entertainment in connection with the St. Andrew's Mutual Improvement Association, in the Lorne-street-hall yesterday evening, was well patronised by a large and respectable audience, the hall being nearly full. The programme was faithfully and successfully carried out with general satisfaction. The choir of St. Andrew's mustered in nearly full force, and gave part songs, and other members assisted inseveralinstruinental duets. The following was the programme :— Part song, "All among the barley," choir; poetic address, Mr. John Blackman; song, "Longing," Miss Tait ; duet, "When the wind bloweth in from the sea," Mr. and Miss Culpan; soug, "The midshipmite," Mr. A. Alderman; duet (piano), "II corricolo," Miseee Braund and Culpan; song, "Here upon my vessel's deck," Mr. J. G. Culpan ; recitation, "A report from below,"Mr. S. E. Davis ; song, " At the ferry," Miss Tait; song, "Jack's Yarn," Mr. Menzies; partsong, " O who will o'er the Downs so free," choir. The singers were mostly encored. Mr. and Miss Culpan met with deserved trpplause. The songs by Miss Tait were both of high merit, and given with appreciative taste and feeling. "Jack's Yarn by Mr. Menzies won quite a storm of applause, and the singer complied with the wishes of the audience by singing '' In the Gloaming." Mr. S. E. Davis gave a humourous reading from the humourous poems of Hood, which met with a generous reception. Mr. Alderman won an encore by the "Midshipmite," although it was evident that he had not sufficiently studied his song. The whole concluded with Williams' amusing comedietta " One too Many for Him," in five characters, which produced roars of merriment.
