MAYORAL ELECTIONS.
[bt telegraph.] OxEHtrroA, 'Wednesday. At the election for mayor the result of the poll was :—George Codlin, 73 ; Joiin Lunson, 34. Mr. Codlin was declared elected. Hamilton, Wednesday. At the mayoral election to-day Mr. Knox was exacted. The poll was as follows :— Kuox, 84; Gaudiu, 61. Wasgasvji, Wednesday. Tho election for the mayoralty was vigorously contested to-day. The candidates were Messrs. Gilbert Carson and Henry Nathan. The poll resulted as follows:—Carson, 162; Nathan, 114. Wkliikoton, Wednesday. The mayoral election took place to-day. Meesrs. Lu the mayoral election Mr. Barkley was defeated by Mr. Nancarrow. The former polled 114, and Mr. Nancarrow 104. The contest waß keen, but there was no excitement. HoKiTiKA, Wednesday. The mayoral election took place to-day. There were two candidates—Messrs. W. L. Fowler and J. Cross. The former was elected. Westport, Wednesday. htr. Haselden was elected mayor to-day, beating his opponent by 24 votes. C'UKi.sTOHORCH, Wednesday. The mayoral election excited a good deal of interest, and a close canvass was carried on. Mr. Gapes retired last week, and thus left the field to Messrs. Rudden Law and C. B. Taylor. The election wae very close, resulting in 594 votes for the former, and 555 tor Mr. Taylor. The official declaration will be made to-morrow, but the position is not e epected to be changed. Mr. J. Joyce, the only candidate, is the new Mayor of Sydenham. Mr. C. Smith was elected for Kaiapoi by 1 majority of 21. There was only one other candidate. Mr. J. Johnston was the only candidate fnr Rangiora, and was re-elected. Lytteltgn, Wednesday. Mr. H. Allwright was elected mayor by a majority of nine over his opponent, Mr. S. R. Webb. Dun'edin, Wednesday. Mr. Gore was elected mayor, beating Mr. Koss, the present mayor, by 139 votes. A good deal of interest was taken in the election. Invercaroill, Wednesday. The election of mayor took place to-day. Mr. Joseph Ward was elected, beating Mr. ** • -Searle by thirty-five votes.
