MEETING OF ST. FRANCIS BE SALES PARISHONERS.

A meeting of the parishioners of the Church of St. Francis de Sales, Newton, was held yesterday afternoon, at 3 o'clock. In the absence of the Very Rev. Father Downey, 0.5.8., the Rev. Father O'Gara, 0.5.8., presided, and introduced the business of the meeting, viz., to appoint a committee to canvass the distiict for funds to purchase a site, and erect a church thereon. The Kev. Chairman, after addressing the meeting and urging the hearty co-operation of the parishioners in the matter, then called on the first business, viz , the election of trustees. Resolved, "That the Rev. Fathers Downey and O'Gata, and Messrs. Mahon and P. tJrophy he trustees." Resolved, " That Messrs. Brophy, Larkin, White, Jas. Clarke, Gallagher, Walmßley, Quaid, Burke, Haslam, O'Brien, Mahon, Corbett, Branagan, O'Grady, O'Byrne and Green, be a committee to canvass the district for subscriptions in aid of the Church Building Fund, with power to add to their number. ' Resolved, "That subscription lists be opened at once." The Rev. Father O'Gara and Mr. Owen Mahon took lists, and obtained promises amounting to £195 15s, from thirty persons only. The meeting, in consequence of only a short notice having been given, was not so largely attended as it would otherwise have been, but on the whole, the result was very satisfactory. It was resolved that the committee meet thi3 evening, at the same place, immediately after devotions.
