LATEST WELLINGTON NEWS.

[TJY TELIEORAPH, FROM OCR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington*, Saturday. THE POSITION IN TARANAKI. The statement which has foun i publication, that Mr. Parris has threatened, to employ the constabulary to remove forcibly the Maoris who pitched a whare on land outside of the reserves, ia not correct. The latest telegrams received by the Government are that Major Goring with 200 Armed Constabulary marched yesterday afternoon to the new camping ground at Opua, which ia well on Te Whiti's sacred territory, being about a mile north of Umuroa, and four miles from Opunake. The remainder of the Oeo contingent of Armed Constabulary and unemployed will join the advanced body at Opua when the Oeo portion of the road is completed. In view of the fact that this last movement is a critical one in the event of any resistance being intended by Te Whiti or Tohu, Mr. Bryce did not come on to Wellington this morning by tho Hinumoa, which brought Mr. Whitaker, but lauded at New Plymouth, and proceeded to-day to the Constabulary camp at Stoney River, where he will stay for a day or two, in order to be at hand should his presence be desirable. THE COLONIAL TREASURER. Major Atkinson is s'.iU at Taranaki. I hear to-day that his health is somewhat better, but he is not expected to return to Wellington for some daj'S. THE GOVERNOR AND EDUCATION. Tho Governor in person will open the new Thorndon schools on Monday, aud will tike advantage of the opportunity to deliver a speech on education, as he is understood to be anxious to have a chance of expressing his own views on the subject, and has been for some time collecting copious details. I hear that His Excellency is warmly favourable to religious teachiug of some kind being given in the State schools, and that he alto favours the imposition of some charge for education. This of course is mere hearsay, but from apparent reliable sources. The Governor's speech is looked forward to with great interest.
