The title of Czar is not derived frem Ctcaar, but is of Eastern origin, and corresponds withtliat of Shah. The term appears in the names of several Assyrian kings, usually ai the end of the name—Belshazzar, for example; ■ The Czars of Moscow and of Servia were small potentates without political connection with tbe Empire of the East. The Kaiser of the Holy .Roman Empire'of Germany comes direct from the Ctesar of the Western Empire, whose successor he became. Both terms being of Aryan origin, there is probably a remote linguistic relation between them. The mistake is often reproduced, and has become a current error.
