POLICE COURT.—Monday. [Before E. C. Barstow, Esq., R.ir.] Indecent Language.—Joseph Marks was charged with using indecent language in Edwardes-street on the night of the 14th instant. It seems he was endeavouring to get into a house where some Maori women resided, and failing, raised a disturbance, and committed the offence complained of. Hβ pleaded guilty, and was fined 40s, or seven days' imprisonment. Forgery.—John Brady was charged with forging and uttering a cheque on the Bank of Australasia for £19. Mr. Odium, the proprietor, of the Black Bull Hotel, said, that on. the 30th ultimo the prisoner came to his house and proffered the cheque produced, purporting to be drawn by Mr. J. Jβ. Hay.' He said he had been working for Mr. Hay, at Papakura, and had received the cheque as m ages. Witness gave him £3, and promised him the balance when the cheque had been cashed. The cheque was jJresented at the Union Bank on Monday, and referred to the drawer. Mr. J. B. Hay said the prisoner had been working for him for some time. On the 23rd ultimo paid him in two cheques, for £9 and £10 respectively] Thecheque produced was not drawn by witness. Cross-examined : Had paid prisoner cheques before. Did .not remember the dates, but none were over £5. W. W. Gudgeon, ledgerkeeper at the Union Bank, proved that there was no account at the bank in the name of J. B. Hay. Detective Jeffrey deposed tothe arrest of the prisoner on the Cth instant. He said he must have been drunk,--The same prisoner was also charged with the forgery of a cheque for £4 on the Bank of New South Wales. This oheque purported to be signed by Daniel O'Brien, and was presented at the Gv /ernor Browne Hotel. The evidence in this case was of. the same nature as the first-mentioned. —A third caso of precisely the same nature having been gone into, the prisoner stated that he reserved his defence, and was committed for trial. Application.— The heawgg of a summons against Frederick Farrelljior failing to contribute to the support of his illegitimate child, was, on the application of Mr. Rees, postponed for a fortnight to secure the personal attendance of defendant.

PAPAXURA E.M. COURT.—Monday.. James Walker was fined ss, and costs Is 6d, for being drunk. Sidney Thorne was charged with having, used threatening language to John Riley, at" Ararimu, on the 27th October last. The; case was dismissed. Sidney Thorne was charged with having. , unlawfully cut two trees, the property of John Biley. After hearing the evidence of Mr. J. S. Wilson, the chairman of the Boad Board, to the effect that the trees in. question were on the road and not on informant's land, the case was dismissed. Civil Cases.—McCarthy v. McGrath. Claim 30s, for impounding cattle. Mr. Armstrong for defendant. Judgment for defendant. Costs, 395. McGrath v. McCarthy. Claim £o 10s, for work and labour at fencing. Mr. Armstrong for plaintiff. Judgment for defendant. Costs, 21s. McGrath v. McLeod. Claim £15, for loss of foal and damage to mare. Mr. Armstrong for plaintiff. Judgment for plaintiff, £5; costs, 375.
