BISHOP SELWYN'S DEPARTURE.
Oub readers are aware that a great socs.il meeting is to be held to-night on. the occasion'of the approaching departure to England by the Panama mail of the Bishop of New Zealand. The con-, templated period of his Lordship's absence from his diocese is a year—the immediate purpose of his visit to England being the approaching meeting at Lambeth of all the bishops throughout tho world who are in communion with the Church of England.The proceedings of the meeting to-night arc to commence with a soiree at seven o'clock. At eight o'clock tho chair is to be taken by his Honor tho Superintendent. We understand that an address from the Diocesan Synod of the clergy and laity of this diocese, is to be -presented to the Bishop by the Hon. William Swainson ; and that among the speakers are to be his Honor Judge Moore, Major Heaphy, the Kcv. Mr. Buller, the Rev. David Jones, &c. Tho musical portion of the entertainment is •undertaken by a most efficient choir, -cinder the management of Mr. Brown. His Excellency the Growrnor is expected to honor the occasion with his very acceptable presence.
