THE SCHEDULE ROUTES.

The proposed Tramways are to be constructed on a 4ft gauge, and to consist of six lines or routes extending through the City to the northern boundaries at (a) the junction of Thorndon Quay and Tinakon-roiad , (b) at the end of Tina-kori-road by what are known as the Botanical Gardens. The six lines of route are — 1. From the Borough Boundary at Oriental Bay. 2. From Constablei-street at the intersection of Coromandel-street. 3. From Mansfield-street (Newtown Park Gates). 4 From Adelaide - road Borouo-h, Boundary to Island Bay. o. From Wallace-street (Howardstreet corner). 6. From Aro-street (Quarry). The whole of the routes will be connected to the above Northern Boundaries along certain streets as shown on the deposited plans.

NOTES ON LINES

1. ORIENTAL BAY.— This will be constructed as a single line with crossing places as shown as fax as Courten-ay-plaee, when it becomes part of a double line. 2. CONSTABLE-STREET.— The portion up Constable-street will be a single line with crossing places. 3. MANSFIELD - STREET. — This route will be a double line, as shown. 4. ADELAIDE-ROAD.— This route from the Borough Boundary to the top of Rintoul-street will be single, and then double, as shown. 5 WALLACE-STREET.— This route from Wallace-street to Manners-street will be single, and then double, as shown. 6. ARO-STREET.— This route from Aro-street (Quarry) to Lower Willisstreet will be single, and then double, as shown. The previously spoken of northern lines will be single, with stopping places beyond the Government Station, as shown. The line running along Vivian-street will be single with passing places.

CROSS SECTIONS.

From these drawings it will be seen that the Electric Line is to be carried in duplicate the whole way and supported by centre poles, or side poles with long bracket arms, or side poles and span wires. The system is known as the double insulation system, and is so constructed that no insulation depends on any one insulator. The rails are of substantial construction, and of 951b per yard section, and are stayed together every 10 feet, and are laid on a 6-inch bed of concrete. All the rails are to be doubly bonded, and the two tracks where they run side by side will be bonded at convenient intervals. The overhead line is put up in halfmile sections, and arrangements will be made to fuse and break these sections and so separate any one at any moment. Current will be supplied along the overhead line at say 500 to 550 volts or thereabouts. Dated the 24th day of March, 1902. J. E. PAGE, Town Clerk.
