The.Meat Industry Employees' Union is protesting to the Federal Governmeut against the alleged detention of its members in New. Zealand under .'the conscription law. It is stated that several members of the union outstayed the period allowed to visitors, and were detained in New Zealand, one or two of tliem'having to join Now Zealand forces under the Military Service Act. The union declared that, if sucli detention by .the New Zealand authorities is persisted in, the union will discountenance slaughtermen leaving Australia for New Zealand.
