SOCIAL AT KAKANUI.

PRIVATE T. G. TYSON ENTER . TAINED.

The Oddfellows' Hall, Kakanui, was tlie scene of a most enjoyable function on Friday evening last,' when a farewell social was tewlorod to Private T. G. Tyson by the Departing Soldiers' Farewell Committee, Mr J. W. Minty presided, and the committee were fortuuate in securing excellent local talent to provide the programme, and all acquitted themselves in most creditable manner, . Proceedings were opened with the singing of the National Anthem," and an enjoyable programme was commenced by (he local orchestra, composed of Miss B, Minty, Mrs T, F, Gallagher, ami Messrs C. J. Leen and W. G, Barnett, Others contributing to the programme were Mcsdames C, Hayes and A, Eddington, and Misses Gallagher, Knight, and Currie, and Messrs J. Bcckingsale, F. B. Southgate, and Wm. Gron, Miss Knight acted as accompaniste,

The chairman, iu a felicitious speech, introduced the guest, arid spoke highly of his many sterling qualitieo, He concluded by extending to Private Tyson the best wishes of the •community for a safe return to Kakanui.

Mr 11, 11, Eddington, on presenting Private Tyson with a fountain pen, said that their guest had lived an honourable life amongst them, and the number present that evening fully testified.to his popularity. He wished Private Tyson continued good health, a successful career, and a safe return to Kakanui, where he would receive a hearty welcome.

Private Tyson, in an appropriate speech, returned thanks i'or the honour done him.

At the conclusion of the programme llr Wm. Lawrence, on behalf of the committee, thanked the performers for the excellent programme provided, saying that all present had thoroughly 'enjoyed the entertainment, and he hoped their services would again be available at many future concerts. Mr Lawrence also thanked the audience for the liberal innnner in which they had subscribed towards the farewell functions, and hoped they would always assist the Committee to give "the boys" a good send-off,

While the I'onccrr- was proceeding the ladies were busy preparing supper, to which full justice was done, Mr Bartrum catered for the committee. Supper over, the hall was cleared and dancing indulged in till a late hour, when, after singing "Auld Lang Syne" and giving cheers for Private Tyson and the "Boys at the Front," all went home, having spent a mos: enjoyable evening.
