A GENERAL ELECTION.
LABOUR MEMBER'S VIEWS, WELLINGTON, July 9. "There is an impression among people," said Mr A. Walker, M.P., at the Labour demonstration last night, "that a general election is pending because of the rumours of dissension in the Cabinet, but whatever may be the foundation for the rumours, you are not warranted in coming to the conclusion that there will be a general election. The life of Parliament has been prolonged for a year, and I do not think the desire of members of the House is to rescind or repeal that legislation." The Labour members, he said, voted against prolonging the life of Parliament. There was every reason for an election. The people were dissatisfied on one ground ami another, and why should they not change Ministers, as had been done in other countries'?
