A QUERY.
TO THB EDITOR. Sir, As one of your anonymous correspondents who, according to the Rev. Munro, knows nothing, would you kindly inform me whab is meant) by " Zollverein ?" Has it anything to do with getting grog m a chemist's shop. An Ignorant Prohibitionist. * [The word is of German origin, and means "customs union," and was and is used m connection with the union of the different independent German States, so that they might, m their commercial relations, act as one State. The word is being used now m connection wibh the federation of the British Empire for fiscal purposes. The idea is to place the different parts of the Empire m the position of the German States so far as a "customs union" is concerned. Our correspondent will therefore feel relieved to know that tho word has but a remote connection with obtaining grog "m " a chemist's shop or " oub " of it. —Ed.]
