DUNEDIN. October 12.
At tho Police Court, George Bowdon was committed for trial for braking into tho dwelling of Henry Essex, Edward Martin was committed for breaking into thtt railway shed. In bankruptcy to-day Mr Justico Williams suspended orders of discharge for 12 months in two instances whoro the applications wore unopposed on tho ground that tho debtors had conducted their business imprudently. Tho honesty of tho bankrupts in each case was admitted, but in his Honor's opinion business had been conducted for some years at tho risk snd exponso of the creditors. The following gold returns are reported : Sow Hoy Big Beach Company, 149oz? 13dvrts retorted gold for a fortnight; United Herculea Sluicing, 47ozs 14dwts lfigrs ; Hercules No. 2, 59ozs 7dwls ; Wuipori Doep Lead, 30ozs 17Jdwts ; Upper Waipori, 7ozs for two days. A special moating of the Bootmakers' Union was hold to-night to consider tho now fltatemenb put forward by tho Employers' Association. Those present disapproved of tho conditions of labor, and ib was resolved to ask the master bootmakers to meot in conference with the men la arrango a statement satisfactory to both parties, whilo also enabling tho m istorn to compote with tho Auckland masters.
