The Wellington and Hutt Building Society shows a profit of L 3225 17* 6d for the year, which is equal to nearly 1-3 per share. Last year the profit was only LI 5s lOd per share. The Post gays : — We find on enquiry that the falling oft in the postal revenue is only apparent, and not real, arising from the fact that Treasury abstracts are made up before the complete returns come in. This revenue of L47,C>58 in reality shows the receipts for 5 months. The amount actually received was L 51.750, besides LGOOO received on account of English service, and the amount of L3OOO has still to be received. This makes the total L 60,700, or half of the estimate for the year. As, however, the second half of the year always produces a considerably larger revenue than the first (as the for leases, etc., are paid in the third quar ter), it is expected that the revenue will largely exceed the estimate. The price of gas is likely to be reduced here next month.
