Work was commenced at an early hour by a trial of Sailor. His owner, the trainer, and one or two others were on the ground before daylight, and as soon as light permitted were hard at it, As Young's arrival at the Hutt had roused suspicions, some persons planted themselves for fun, and from them the result is heard to be that Sailor was sent away, little thought of as a Wanganni hack, making the paoe hot to the half mile post, after which Otawa joined issue, young Walker being up, the result being that Sailor was unable to boat his opponent. Time was nottaken. After the affair was over, StrangV began to work. Ray's pair cantered, and afterwards Maritana did a slow gallop. The mare was a little lame at first, hut was soon right again, and she and Te Whetu cantered together. Merlin •nd Eversley galloped about • mile and a quarter in company, Jumper pulling hard, bat he appears a little touched in the off fore leg, hard going not suiting him, and unless it rains before the races his chance at the hurdles is rather small. Lidy Ellen and Laertes did a fast gallop in company. Australian's peonliar hind action is being much commented on, and doubts are expressed as to his capabilities of compassing two mitaa, Danebury and Mufti were not on the oourao, having been despatched to the beach. The former, when viewed in his box, appeared well, the latter has receded in the betting, whilst his stable companion is becoming a favorite fast, Grey Mom us did good work for twa miles.
