Cruikshank also competed, 120 yds Race—lst prize, L2los ; 2nd, LI; 3rd, 10s. As there were twelve entries for this race it was run off in heats. The first heat was won by A. Dalgliesh, with Craig second. The second heat by M'Donald. J. Dalgliesh being second. In the third heat Fraser secured first place, and London second; and the final heat was well contested and resulted in a win for A. Dalgliesh, who maintained the lead throughout. J. Dalgliesh second, and M'Donald third. Youth's Walking Match (Handicap); i mile ; under 16yrs of age.—lst prize, LI; 2nd. 15s; 3rd, 10.. A. Smith, 1 ; W. Smith, 2. Three others also started, but were disqualified for unfair walking. Putting Light Ball (no drawing).—lst prize, L 2 10s; 2nd, LI ; 3rd, 10s. D. Chalmers, 33ft Bin, 1 ; Steve Smith, 35ft 7Jin, 2; J. Puller, 33ft 3in, 3. Running Long Leap.—lst prize, L 2 : 2nd, LI; 3rd, 10s. T. M'Auly, 18ft 4in, 1; S. Smith, 18ft l}in, 2 ; J. Fraser, 18ft $in, 3. This was an easy victory for the winner, he not having been thrown once. Single Sticki.—lst prize, L2los ; 2nd, LI. Three only competed for this item, and resulted in Walsh scoring the most points, he showing some very pretty play with the stick, easily mastering Lane, who scored second honors. Boys' Race (under 12 years of age).—lst prize, 10s; 2nd, ss; 3rd, 2s 6d. Thirty boys ran for the prizes, and the winners turned up in A. Everett, 1, and two brothers named Hannigan, being second and third. 440 yds Hurdle Race (8 flights) Ist prize, L 3 10s ; 2nd, LI 10s ; 3rd, 15s. Ten started for this race, and it was undoubtedly the finest of the day, as every competitor cleared the hurdles in good style. Dalgleish, who received a handicap, worked his way to the front, and although it looked like M 'Donald's race, atter getting over the second last hurdle, he did not manage to keep his premier position, as Dalgleish, putting on a spurt, won an excting race by about a yard from M'Donald, who was second. J. O'Connor came in third, about five yards behind the second man. Sailors' Hornpipe.—lst prize, L 2 ; 2nd, LI ; 3rd, 10a. D. Buchanan, I; J. Murray, 2 ; J. Watson, 3. The dancing of the winner was greatly admired, and the awards gave general satisfaction. Running High Leap.—lst prize, L 2 ; 2nd, LI; 3rd, 10s. Fraser, sft 2in., 1 ; Steve Smith, sft. lin., 2 ; Fraser, 4ft. 9in., 3. Three-legged Race.—lst prize, LI. Only two couples started, and it was won by M'Batney and Shepherd. One Mile Race Handicap.—lst prize, L 5 5s ; 2nd,' L 2 2s; 3rd, LI Is. J. O'Connor (scratch), 1; S. Hughes (70yds), 2; J. M'Donald (10yds), 3. This race needs little description, as it was evident that the winner, who ran through his men from the start, and was never pushed* by any of the others, although occasionally he exhibited his immense speed, will prove to be about one of the fastest mile runners in New Zealand. Heavy Hammer, swinging, 211bs. — Ist prize, L 3; 2nd, LI 10s; 3rd, 15s. D. Chalmers, 96ft sin, 1; Steve Smith, 74ft 2in, 2 ; Liddle, 70ft lOin, 3. Sack Raoe.—lst prize, LI; 2nd, 10s ; 3rd, ss. Four competed, and the winners were as follows—A. Smith, 1; Watson,- 2; Cruikshank, 3. This race created considerable amusement to the spectators, through some of the men tripping and falling. Youths' Race, 140 yds (Handicap).—lst prize, L 2 ; 2nd, LI; 3rd, 10s. Amos (12 yds), 1; Peattie (syds), 2; Thomas, (Byds), 3. The winner, having received*a good handicap, led from the start and was never caught. Consolation Race (Handicap).—lst prize, LI 10s ; 2nd, LI; 3rd, 10s. J. Thomas, 1 ; Peattie, 2; Smith, 3. The first and second got a good start, and ran very closely right through, coming in in the order named above. A race for members of the Band, and an extra boys' race, were also run afterwards, but we did not succeed in getting the names of the winners.
