The following communication haa been forwarded to us for publication : — Hillgrore, Moeraki, October 27th, 1868. Sib, — The enclosed letter was recently received from the Duke of Edinburgh, in reply to an address forwarded from the residents of the Town and District of Hampden in the early part of the present year. By giving it insertion in your widely-circulated journal, for the information of the colonists who forwarded the address, you will oblige. Yours truly, M. S. Gxeeson.

SlB, — I im desired by His Koyal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh to acknowledge the receipt of the address sigced by yourself as chairman of a meeting held at Hampden, Province of Otago, New Zealand ; and, in answer, to request you will inform the colonists who signed that address that Hit Koyal Highness is very grateful to them for the many kind expressions for His Royal Highness'* welfare and happiness contained therein, and that he is sorry that circumstances prerented him from visiting New Zealand after his late visit to Australia. His Koyal Highness is happy. to add that, owing to the goodness of God, his health has not been impaired from the attempt that was made upon his life in Australia, I have the honor to be, Sir, Your obedt. servant, Augustus Liddill, Col. ; Treasurer to H» Koyal Highness.
