A public meblir^ v* held in the Snhoolhouso on Tuesday erening, 20th iar f *nt l to* tlie purpose of electing a new Provisional Comm>«iee, to further the interest of the Mechanic*' Iustitute, when a Commit* tee of seren were elected. On Friday, as His Honor the Superintendent Was p 1 using through this place, three of the members of the Committee waited upon him, to ascertain what subsidy was giren to district* forming a Library. His Honor said that several districts had receired books to the ralue of two pounds to one. The deputation, which consisted of Messrs J. Fresland, T. Hastie, and H. T. Murcott, gave in a report of their interview with His Honor to the Committee the same evening, when it was resolred that L25 'should be spent at once for the Library. I observe that a popular entertainment is to take place on Thursday, 19th November, in the Me* chimes' Institute. Matters in general are rather quiet, but there has been a slight improvement in trade this week or two.
