Though seven teams were at Kawakawa representing the Club for the Buxton Shield, there still remained ten full rinks to take part in Saturday s draw. Results were : A. Jackson, L. Masters, D. Millar, B. Wright defeated JlcDonald, Booth, Peace, Beazley 19-18. West, Kunicich, Snowball (Mangere), Steen defeated Puckey, Reynolds, Foster, Michie, 22-9. Barlow, Tunnicliffe, Theed, Dykes, defeated R. Crene, Murray, Bird, San ders, 18-12. McSweeney, Stensness, Farrimond, H. Wilkinson defeated Gale, Osbaldiston, Cave, J. E. Wilkinson, 26-14. Vegar, Hughes, N. Masters, Clark defeated Harringson (Jnr.), Gardener, H. Harrington, Ryan, 22-13. BUXTON SHIELD Kaitaia Successful The premier trophy of the five Northern Clubs, the Buxton Shield, was brought back to Kaitaia by Mark Hammond’s rink, D. Simms (lead). . . , / l \ 1 TXT

Hammond scored two on the extra end. Twenty-six teams >mpeted, seven from Kaitaia. In section play, four teams came through with five wins, Hammond, Crosby (Kaitaia), Muir (Kawakawa), and Kosivich (Kaikohe). In the semifinal, Hammond defeated Muir after a close game, owing to the limited time only seven ends were allowed, and Kosivich defeated Crosby’s team (J. Cowie, J. Stansfield and F. Brailhwaite) on the final head. Crosby appeared assured of victory with three up on the board but when the skips changed ends Crosby was a packet down, electing to drive. Crosby was seven down at the count. LICENSED VICTUALLERS’ CUP % ALSO TO KAITAIA At Whangarei last Thursday, mine host of the Kaitaia Hotel won the annual Publican’s tournament. J. Curran’s team was T. Joll, G. McKenzie and W. Atkins. The coveted trophy is now proudly on show.

• "5 Miss Veronica Reed has returned to Auckland, where she is attending Otahuhu High School. She has beer holidaying with her father. Mr. and Mrs. E. Young and family are leaving the district today to take up residence in Whangarei. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis of Auckland are touring the North and while in this district are the guests of Mr. i and Mrs Cedric Foster of Oruru.
