Though seven teams were at Kawakawa representing the Club for the Buxton Shield, there still remained ten full rinks to take part in Saturday s draw. Results were : A. Jackson, L. Masters, D. In section play, four teams came through with five wins, Hammond, Crosby (Kaitaia), Muir (Kawakawa), and Kosivich (Kaikohe). In the semifinal, Hammond defeated Muir after a close game, owing to the limited time only seven ends were allowed, and Kosivich defeated Crosby’s team (J. Cowie, J. Stansfield and F. Brailhwaite) on the final head. Crosby appeared assured of victory with three up on the board but when the skips changed ends Crosby was a packet down, electing to drive. Crosby was seven down at the count. LICENSED VICTUALLERS’ CUP % ALSO TO KAITAIA At Whangarei last Thursday, mine host of the Kaitaia Hotel won the annual Publican’s tournament. J. Curran’s team was T. Joll, G. McKenzie and W. Atkins. The coveted trophy is now proudly on show.
