Governor-General to be Invited to Visit Kaitaia

Borough Council’s Decision At the monthly 'meeting of the Kaitaia Borough Council which was held last evening, a letter was received from the Mangonui County R.S.A. which asked that the Borough Council join with that body in inviting His Excellency the Governor General, Lieut.-General Sir B. Freyberg V.C., to visit Kaitaia at his convenience. The R.S.A. Executive submitted in their letter that visits from our Gov--1 ernors-General were too few and far between, and they thought that the ; time had come when we in this disI trict were entitled to receive a risit j from that personage. I When commenting on the letter, His Worship the Mayor, Mr. D. ArS chibald Snr., said that he was entirely in agreement with the request of the | R.S.A. He went on to say that we had had I no official visit from the representaS tive of His Majesty fo r very many I years, and he felt that Kaitaia was ! left out in the cold. Those in high places seemed to ; leave us entirely alone and to avoid coming as far north as Kaitaia and its surrounding districts. He thought, he said, that this request shoujfl receive the favourable consideration of the Council, and "hat His Excellency should be invited. Cr. Weber said that perhaps we were avoided because of the condition of our roads, and said that he hoped His Excellency would come during the nice dry weather, so that he could appreciate our roading difficulties, and enjoy some of the dust that we ourselves enjoy. Nevertheless, he supported wholeheartedly the idea behind the request j as did all the other councillors, -nd | on the motion of Cr. Weber and Cr. I Clark, it was decided unanimously to extend a cordial invitation to His Excellency to visit Kaitaia at his earliest convenience.
