METHODIST NEWS Church Anniversary The Anniversary Concert presented by a party of Whangarei artists realised a net profit of £ls for the Church Hall Lining Fund. The Anniversary service was conducted on Sunday evening by Rev. Dr. Alex Hodge. A well-filled church and hearty congregational singing produced a worshipful atmosphere long to be remembered, as the preacher conducted the service. The sermon was a character study of John Mark, with an application of the
principles of his life to modern situations. After the service, a social hour was held in the hall where Rev. Dr. Hodge introduced those present | to several choruses of his own composition. Opportunity was taken to j say farewell to Miss Mabel Hodge i who had just completed her training [ as a nurse at the Kaitaia Hospital : and left with her father last Monday for Auckland. Speeches of thanks to Rev. Dr. Hodge were made by Messrs. R. Williams and J. Clarke. Bazaars A social afternoon with stalls held in the Methodist Hall on Wednesday, was third of a series of successful bazaars held throughout the district recently. The Oruru bazaar realised £55, Fairbums £35 and the function at Kaitaia approximately £23. There was a special Parsonage Furnishing Stall presided over by Mrs. A. Jflhns, which realised £2 2/- and a work stall stocked by. the Fairburns Ladle#’ Guild brought in £7. . Other stalls devoted to cakes, produce, sewing, etc., did a brisk business. During afternoon tea Mrs. G. Wild sang two songs with .Mrs. F. Lee as accompanist.
