KAITAIA SWIMMING CLUB Moved by Mr. L. H. Turner and seconded by Mr. M. D. Waddell, about a dozen interested people carried the resolution that endeavours be made to form a Kaitaia Swimming and Life Saving Club. The meeting was held in the Library rooms last evening, presided over by Mr. L. G. Thompson. A decision was made to hold the general meeting on Thursday December 19th. at 7.30 p.m. in the Library. Ultimate aim of the Club is to raise funds for the building of swimming baths in Kaitaia. Until that time the pool in the A. and P. grounds will be the headquarters of the Club. A sub-committee comprising Messrs. E. Clark, J. Buckle, D. Buckle, T. Ryan, A. Perkins and L. Turner, was appointed to inspect the poo, hnd to take measurements for the erection of taking-off platforms and temporary changing sheds. They will submit a report on the work together with materials needed with power to order the necessary materials.

Concern Expressed at Reception To High Commissioner At Wednesday evening’s Borough Council meeting when asked to report on the recent visit to Kaitaia of Mr. A. R. Cutler, V.C., the Australian High Commissioner to New Zealand, Cr. L. G. Thompson stated at first that perhaps it would be better if he did not do so. That there should have been such a poor representation of the business people and representative citizens of Kaitaia at the meeting addressed by such a distinguished visitor and fine speaker as Mr. Cutler, was not at all indicative of the progressive spirit of the district. Mr. and Mrs. Cutler came north said Cr. Thompson t 0 meet the people, to become conversant with their views and to glean a knowledge of the country in which they are to spend their next few years. It was extremely unfortunate that there was not a larger and more representative attendance at the meeting in the Parish Hall on that Tuesday evening concluded Cr. Thompson. Mr. Cutler’s address was most illuminating and instructive.
