AWANUI WELCOME HOME
Public welcome home w r as given the returned boys from overseas last Friday evening in the Parish Hall, the ,arrangements being attended to by the Awanui Patriotic Committee. The attendance was not as large as expected but the boys received a splendid hearing. Mr. Sansbury, on behalf of the Patriotic Committee, and the Awanui citizens welcomed the boys home once more, and said that all hoped the situation would so improve during their furlough that they would not have to leave New Zealand again. Sgt. Syd West responded on the boys’ behalf, and those present raised the roof with “For They are Jolly Good Fellows.” The dance floor, music, and supper left nothing to be desired. Music was supplied by Mrs. Stitt, arid Messrs. C. Spitz, W. Christenseil and J. Posinkovich, with extras by Airs. Ron Vazey. The reurned boys present included Syd West, Ren Smith, W. Marshall, Len Ford, Fred Housham, Maurice Puckey, and W. Ranga and Sonny Noble. Two novelty dances were won by Mrs. Mary Divich and partner.
