ANNUAL MEETING OF THE COUNTY ASSOCIATION The adjourned annual meeting of the Mangonui County TenniS Association was held at Kaitaia on Saturday evening, the delegates present being Mr. J. Morrison, president ; Mr. D. Gordon-Kirgan, Pukepoto ; Mr. K. Fyfe, Kaitaia ; Mr. H. Christensen and Mr. R. T. Stitt, Kaiaka ; Mr. D. Wallace and Mr. S. Switzer, Takahue. Report and Balance Sheet The balance sheet submitted showed that the Association had built the credit balance up from £5 10/- at the beginning of lasi, year to £ll at the conclusion. The county tournament had shown a balance of 8/- after all the expenses incurred had been met. The president, Mr. J. Morrison, tabled the following report : It is a matter for regret that there was no senior competition for the sea-

son. The junior inter-club competition was won by the Kaiaka club who also won one of the Grace Cup competitions. Congratulations are extended to this club on their success. A most successful championship and handicap tuornament was conducted towards the end of the season, although marred by bad weather at first having to be postponed, it was eventually played off successfully at the Kaitaia courts. The thanks of the Association are extended to the Tournament Committee and others who assisted so ably in the running of the tournament. The Association has been unfortunate in losing its secretary, Mr. J. Jordan, who has left the district. The success of the tournment was in no small way attributable to the enthusiasm of Mr. Jordan and we can ill afford to lose such enthusiastic officers. I have finally to place on record my appreciation of the assistance at all times by my fellow officers and for the work in the interests of tennis in the county which with the cooperation and interest of all lovers of the game should show considerable improvement in the future. Election of Officers The following officers were elected : Patron Mr. H. M. Rushworth, M.P. ; President —Mr. J. Morrison ; Vice-Presidents—presidents of affiliated clubs ; Secretary and Treasurer —Mr. R. T. Stitt ; Committee—Messrs. D. Wallace, H. Christensen, D. Gordon-Kirgan, K. Fyfe, P. Wilkinson and the president and secretary ; Delegate to North Auckland Tennis Association —Mr. Borden ; Sole County H. Christensen ; Auditor —Mr. C. McKinnon. General Business Affiliation Fee—The subscription from affiliated clubs was reduced to 6d. a member with a minimum of 10/per club, as against a fee of 1/- a member during the past years. This reduction was considered as justified as the Association was now on a sound financial footing and there was no need to build up a large resei've. The affiliation fee is to be paid before the Ist of January. County Tournament.—lt was decided to arrange for a county tournament at Kaitaia on suitable date, the end of February or beginning of March being suggested, but the exact date and the organisation was left with the committee. County Competitions.—The county competitions are to commence on Saturday, November 13, nominations closing with the secretary on Saturday, November 6. With the view of strengthening the senior competition it was decided that a club could not enter more than one team in any grade and that in the senior competitions the teams consist of four ladies and four men while in the junior grade the number will be six of each sex. The resolution on the books that the four leading ladies and four leading men of both the Kaitaia and Kaiaka

clubs be classed as seniors was rescinded. It is probable that there will be three teams in the senior and five, with a possibility of six, in the junior competition. Kaitaia, Kaiaka and Takahue are talked of for the senior, and Kaitaia, Kaiaka, Takahue, Pukepoto and Awanui with a possibility of the Valley being also able to field a team in the junior competition.

PUKEPOTO TENNIS CLUB’S OPENING

A threatening morning turned to a fine day and the players enjoyed a good day of tennis. After welcoming the visitors the Club’s president, Mr. J. Morrison, called on Mrs. Morrison to play the first ball. Refreshments were served during the afternoon.
