Tug-of-War and Lazy Stick Tournament
In the A. and P. hall, Kaitaia, on Tuesday evening a tug-o’-war and lazy stick tournament was staged by Miss D. Mclntosh's committee. The eveniDg proved most successful and some good pulls were witnessed, the final in the heavy weight between two Ahipara native teams being particularly good, as was the final in the light weight when Miss D. Puckey’s team and Metcalfe's team tied in the first pull for the final and in the pull-off Metcalfe's team won. The following are the results — Tcg-o'-war Heavyweight Nepia's pulled N.S.S. Coy.’s Edwards' pulled Dyer’s Final Edwards' pulled Nepia’s Lightweight Miss D. Puckey’s pulled Shalders' Wallace Supplies’ pulled Larmers road Semi-final Metcalfe’s pulled Wallace Supplies' Final Metcalfe’s pulled Miss Puckey’s Lazy Stick Lightweight—David proved the winner Heavyweight—o. Nepia pulled the White Wonder (W. Dyer) after the latter had successfully defeated ten other contestants.
